Brown is the New Basic
Chocolate is good for you, so indulge…
The yumminess of mocha, truffles, cappuccino and latte are found in this year’s favorite furniture collections. You can warm up to browns with shades of wheat and orange, spice it up with cayenne and cinnamon, or cool it down with delicate shades of blue or sea green.
Illuminate Your Style
How you light up your room has a lot to do with function and mood. Your lamps should complement your furniture by style, finish or size. Make sure that your table lamps are the correct height for the sofa and end table combined. A too short or too small lamp can throw off the whole look you are trying to achieve.
Defining Serenity    Your bedroom is your retreat from the day’s cares: fill it with colors and styles that make you feel secure, content and relaxed. Whether you prefer dark finishes or light contemporary or opulent, you can design the perfect retreat.
When the sun doesn’t shine and the moon doesn’t beam, a silver pearl glaze of Ashley Furniture’s Signature Design Luxuriance Collection will give your bedroom a warming glow. Opulent finishes and ornate details define this luxurious bedroom collection.
Some prefer drama in their retreats. The ebony finish and stain nickel hardware of the Metro Silhouette brings a rich contemporary style to the bedroom.
Variations on the Console Table
The console table, often referred to as a sofa table, does not have to be forever relegated to the rear of a sofa. In your foyer, a console table, with a mirror or wall art hanging above, your collection of favorite artifacts and sculptural objects below, make a fabulous first impression. In a small dining room, the console table works well as a server or sideboard. Place a console table in front of a bay or picture window with an accent chair on either side – quite a statement.
What’s In Your Palette?
Bright and Light or Deep and Intense
Study after study has shown the profound impact color has on our attitude and mood, so choose wisely. Each of us caries a color palette around in our heads: just look at your wardrobe and notice what colors prevail. If you have a favorite painting or piece of art, use it as your color theme.

Cocoon Yourself
Create a space as your retreat from the day’s cares, and fill it with colors and styles that make your feel secure and relaxed. Color can have a great influence on your mood, so select colors that relax you and make you feel contented. For sheer serenity, envelope yourself in color by painting everything the same selected shade, using satin finish on the walls, semi gloss on the trim and flat on your ceiling. It will embrace you.
The Wonderfully Versatile Bench
Use benches in the living or family room for additional seating. Create an intimate conversation area by placing two benches opposite each other with one small, low table in between. Offer your guests a bench in the foyer for them to comfortable remove their shoes or boots. In the bathroom, a bench provides both seating and display possibilities. And, of course, in the bedroom at the foot of the bed to rest the comforter on at night.
Furniture Shopping Tips       by Sandra Kirkland   for Dari Furniture Company monthly sales circular 2006
#1   Plan Ahead
To make your furniture shopping experience less stressful and more successful, come prepared. Bring your floor plan or, at the very least, a sketch of your room with dimensions to the furniture store with you.
#2 Don’t Second Guess What Color Will Work
Bring together styles and finishes in a refreshing way. To coordinate effectively, bring a piece of carpet, a swatch of your window treatments, and sample of your paint or wallpaper with you. If a pillow or objet d’art is also driving the theme, bring them along, too.
#3 Go Ahead. Mix Wood Finishes
It’s okay to use different wood finishes in a room. It’s just a matter of blending by style or contrasting by color. To be certain not to goof, bring either a drawer or a wood sample of your other furniture or kitchen cabinets with you to coordinate.
#4 How to Shop for a Mattress
Wear comfortable clothing and slip-on shoes. Bring your sleep partner. Lie down on a mattress and assume your usual sleep position. Plan to spend about 10 minutes lying down on each mattress. Remember, you’re going to be spending a third of the next seven to 15 years sleeping on it. It’s an investment in your good health and worth the time.
